Graduate With Down’s Syndrome Steals Show By Jumping Across Stage In Excitement
Everyone loves graduating high school, whether it’s because you’re proud of your achievements, or simply happy to get the hell out of there, graduation is definitely a cause for celebration.
While we’ve all seen images of happy graduates throwing their hats into the air at the end of their big day, you’d be hard pushed to find another graduate as happy as this guy.
Carlos Neria, also known as Mr Joyous, hopped, jumped, danced and cheered as he made his way across the stage, to hug his teachers, pose for photographs and generally celebrate the happy occasion.
You can watch the moment here:
The 19-year-old’s enthusiasm was so infectious, even the teachers couldn’t help but jump and clap along with him.
Carlos was graduating from Lee High School in Midland, Texas.
Accompanying the video, Midland Independent School District wrote:
One of the greatest things about being part of graduation is celebrating the accomplishments of our students!
We wanted to share a video with you of a very special graduate, Carlos Neria, who danced across the stage with the greatest joy and enthusiasm as he received his high school diploma!
We are so proud of you Carlos and proud of all of our 2018 graduates!
Carlos is the youngest of eight children, according to KWES. His mother, Teresa, calls him ‘a blessing’ in their lives:
He’s given us an example of sharing, of love, of happiness. Nothing gets him down. He looks up and points to God. God. He’s full of faith. Lots of faith.
Now he’s graduated, Carlos will be attending Life College, and wants to find a job where he can interact with people, sharing his infectious happiness.
However, one parent who wasn’t quite so attentive at their kid’s graduation, was a father from Oregon, who was spotted playing the HQ trivia app (and trying to bag $5,000 by doing so) during his daughter’s ceremony.
The photos were spotted by Wyatt Croy as he flicked through the pics from his sister’s graduation.
Speaking to UNILAD, Wyatt said:
We were at my little sister’s graduation, taking photos afterwards like normal, and I did remember that HQ was going on while we were taking pictures, but I kind of assumed we were all just there to take the pictures and going to skip this round of the game in the middle of the graduation.
Once I got home, I was going through photos to send them out to my family, and then I noticed glowing by my dad’s hands in some of the photos.
So I zoomed in and realised he was on HQ the whole time, which I thought was really funny and then I made that tweet.
Wyatt said he started playing HQ Trivia at college in California, and when he went home to visit, he showed it to his whole family and by the time he went back again, they were all hooked.
Perhaps the dad was just trying to win some cash so they could all celebrate properly? Either way, I think we all need to take a leaf out of Carlos’ book.
