Dad Forces Daughter To Walk 5 Miles To School To Stop Her Bullying
Bullying can completely obliterate a person’s self esteem in the long term, with the negative impact lasting long into adulthood.
No doubt discovering your own child is responsible for this sort of damaging behaviour would be devastating. But how would you go about disciplining them? And how would you ensure they would see the error of their ways?
A dad from Ohio, US, decided to teach his daughter a very tough lesson indeed after she was banned from the school bus for bullying another kid. This was apparently the second time this had happened, and Matt Cox felt the need to take action.
The 10-year-old girl had expected her dad to drop her off at school for the duration of her suspension, but Matt had other plans…
Determined to show his daughter the consequences of her hurtful actions, Matt drove behind her as she walked the five miles to school on a grey, chilly day.
Matt later shared footage of the little girl trudging gloomily ahead of him, in a clip entitled ‘Life lessons!!!!’
In the footage, which has been viewed over 15 million times, Matt can be heard explaining:
This lovely lady is my ten-year-old daughter who has for the second time this school year been kicked off the school bus, due to bullying another student.
Let me make this extremely clear, bullying is unacceptable, especially in my household.
Friday, when my daughter brought home her paperwork for her bus suspension, she said ‘Daddy, you’re going to have to take me to school next week’.
The no-nonsense dad added:
As you see, this morning she is learning otherwise. A lot of children today feel that the things their parents do for them is a right and not a privilege, such as parents taking their children to school in the morning, or even bus rides to school in the morning.
All of that is a privilege, and should be treated as such, so today my beautiful daughter is going to walk five miles to school, in 36F (2C) weather.
A lot of you parents aren’t going to agree with this, but that is alright. Because I’m doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter a lesson and stop her from bullying.
So children, if you’re watching this, please understand that bullying is unacceptable everywhere and will not be tolerated. Thanks everyone, have a great day.
Life lessons!!!!UPDATE: lesson learned! Still has all her extremities intact is happy and healthy and seems to have a new outlook on bullying as well as a new appreciation for some of the simple things in life she used to take for granted #HOLDOURKIDSACOUNTABLE #STOPBULLYING

Many of those who watched the clip praised Matt for taking the time to teach his daughter a valuable lesson, describing him as a ‘great father’.
One person cheered:
Good job, Dad! You’re loving your child by raising her to be a decent person.
Way to go dad! She has plenty of time to think about what she did on a five mile walk.
However, others weren’t so sure; with some disagreeing with the public shaming aspect of the harsh punishment
One person argued Matt should have addressed the reasons why his kid was bullying in the first place:
There are reasons children bully and getting to the issue changes a life not just makes a child acceptable. The root cause of what happened to them is critical.
How does this develop communication and a connection? Controlling their behaviour needs to be instilled by self motivation. She’s been trained. Not changed.
So, was Matt helping to make his daughter a kinder person going forward, or was this a step too far?
